Work experiences: 

До 1987 р. Ярослав Борисович працював у Київському університеті, а потім перейшов на наукову роботу до Інституту ботаніки ім. М. Г. Холодного АН УРСР. У 1988 р. він став одним з наймолодших докторів наук, а 1995 р. був обраний членом-кореспондентом НАН України. Я. Б. Блюм брав безпосередню і діяльну участь у створенні Інституту клітинної біології та генетичної інженерії, у 1995 р. був призначений на посаду заступника директора цієї установи.
 

Current projects: 

В останні роки у виробництво впроваджено ряд основних робіт Інституту, серед яких: реалізація Дер­жавної програми створення нових соєвих продуктів; розробка методів визначення якісного та кількісного вмісту генетично модифікованих компонентів у рос­линній сировині та продуктах харчування; одержання мікробіологічним шляхом незамінних амінокислот (лізину, лейцину та ізолейцину) у кристалічній формі: створення технології та обладнання для виробництва борошна з цільного зерна; технологія та установка ви­готовлення альтернативних сумішевих палив з вико­ристанням біосинтезованнх оксигенних компонентів.
Фахівцями Інституту з 2002 р. приділяється багато уваги питанням стандартизації - Розроблено понад 30 державних і галузевих стандартів України, призначених для використання в харчовій промисловості, які гар­монізовані з вимогами Європейського співтовариства.
Колекція штамів мікроорганізмів і ліній рослин для харчової та сільськогосподарської біотехнології віднесена до тих, що становлять національне надбан­ня. Інститут має унікальне наукове обладнання, яке входить до Центру колективного користування HAHУкраїни, та оснащений обчислювальним клас­тером, що входить до складу академічної мережі гріду.
